Rob O Strong

Rob Orlando, renowned as the "Strongman of CrossFit," is a four-time CrossFit Games competitor—three times as an individual from 2009 to 2011, achieving a best finish of 15th in 2010, and once in the 40-44 Masters division where he finished in 11th place overall. He is also credited with designing the "Pig" implement featured in the 2013 Games' Burden Run event.

On January 20, 2025, Orlando was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer affecting his lower jaw and lymph nodes in his neck. Remarkably, just a day prior, he achieved a personal best powerlifting total of 1,525 pounds. Subsequently, on February 13, he underwent a 13-hour surgery to remove a 3” section of his jaw, which was reconstructed using bone grafted from his fibula.

True to form, Rob shared his battle with the same intensity he brings to the gym — read it here.

Despite enduring numbness and paralysis on the right side of his face, loss of sensation in his left foot, and nerve damage in his right trap and shoulder, Orlando returned to the gym just three weeks after surgery. A testament to his resilience, with no feeling in his left foot, he back-squatted 500 pounds exactly six weeks after the operation.

In late March, he began an intensive treatment regimen, including daily radiation, weekly chemotherapy, speech and physical therapy, and IV hydration. During his rigorous treatment, the dedicated members and coaches at his gym, Hybrid Athletics, have kept the business running without a single hiccup.

To support Rob's recovery journey, a specially designed shirt is available for purchase. Proceeds will aid in covering his ongoing medical expenses and treatments. By acquiring this shirt, you're not only honoring a CrossFit legend but also contributing to his fight against cancer.
